During foam moulding, a polymer containing a physical or chemical blowing agent is introduced into a mould cavity. As the material is heated, the blowing agent generates gas, causing the polymer to expand and completely fill the mould. The expanding foam conforms to the mould geometry and forms a uniform cellular structure.
Once the material has fully expanded and solidified or cured, the mould is opened and the finished component is removed. Careful control of the processing conditions ensures consistent density, dimensional accuracy and product quality.
To optimise processing and material performance, functional additives can be incorporated into the formulation. Depending on the application, additives such as chain extenders, stabilisers and processing aids can improve melt strength, processing stability and the final properties of the moulded foam.
